About the Campaign
Rukudzo is a boy aged 16 and is registered to write his final ordinary level examinations in November 2019.He does very well academically and desires to pursue his studies as a scientist.
Rukudzo has been having eyesight problems since his childhood due to allergies. He has been to different opticians and was prescribed different medicines as well as glasses to help him have better vision.
Since last year, the right eye started swelling on and off and this time we approached a different optician who then reffered him to an ophthalmologist so that he gets better treatment and that is where he was diagnosed of keratoconus. Keratoconus is the progressive thinning of the cornea which causes the middle of the cornea to thin and bulge outward due to the pressure of the fluids which are inside the eye which it can nolonger sustain resulting in the eye forming a rounded cone shape. The right eye requires corneal grafting which costs USD3500 and an additonal USD120 per month for medication until the grafting is done.
It has not only affected the right eye but both eyes. In order to avoid the left eye from further deteriorating the ophthalmologist then prescribed the left eye to be crosslinked and have a contact lense fitted. The crosslinking was done and the contact lense will be fitted after a month.
The funds will be used to purchase the cornea in USA to be replace the damaged cornea of the right eye. Some of the funds will also be used to pay theatre charges as well as hospital charges required at the surgery. There are also medications needed every month until the grafting is done and thereafter.
If Rukudzo gets the money for grafting he will be able to write his ordinary level exams and this will help him move forward towards his career of being a scientist and this will only be made possible with your assistance.
Your assistance to help Rukudzo see again will forever be appreciated.
